Step by step

Step 1 - Removing the background. Crop image down to size.



Step 2 - Erase most of the white background, not touching the model.



Step 3 - Add a new layer and make the colour of that layer a dark one so you can see the remaining white of the first layer (around the model).



Step 4 - Select the background remover tool (under the same option as the eraser tool).



Step 5 - Click on a section of white around the hair area and keeping holding whilst painting around the hair line.



Step 6 - Continue around the entire body. You may have to use the magic wand in some areas.



Step 7 - Delete the colour layer to reveal the transparent background.



Step 8 - I've now added the desired background.



Step 9 - As I thought the original background wasn't exciting enough, I decided to add Keith Haring figures around my model.



And here is the completed image.
